Our History

First Sanctuary

The work of the Church of God, Bodden Town was started in the home of Ms. Armenthia Carter sometime in the 1930’s. This work began mainly through the efforts of Bro Orrie Merren II and Sis Glandore Solomon. Some of the other early leaders of the congregation were: Sisters Elva Carter, Ella Thompson, Ginnie Wood, Esmie Jackson, Connie Bodden, Delsie Watson and Brother Henry Frederick.

The congregation was pastored by the resident missionary until about 1964. These missionaries had responsibility for all the congregations and were assisted by local leaders, teachers from Triple ‘C’ School, such as Sisters Wilma Watler, Caroline Merren, Elsie Hurr, Ethel Masters, Emilia Blaskosky and Phelps, and volunteers like Sister Ena Merren and Brother Orrie Merren from the George Town congregation.
