MISSIONS
Global Missions
An integral part of our outreach at Church of God Chapel Bodden town, is to support the efforts of our overseas missionaries. We have been blessed even as we have had the privilege of sharing with them in whatever way that we could.
We have undertaken to send regular material and financial help to ministries in the following different geographical areas: Haiti, Nicaragua, Ukraine and Asia
Asia
We support Wycliffe Caribbean in the work of Bible translation and literacy in Asia, spearheaded by Jim and Carla who have served in that part of the world for many years. They have been a wonderful example of endurance and faithfulness despite the challenges and the obstacles that they have had to face.
God has blessed them remarkably and provided for them miraculously as we and others have partnered with them through prayer and finances in this vital work.
Haiti
The Church has been involved in ministry to Haiti since the early 80’s first with Rev Surin briefly, then with Sister Phyllis Newby whom we are still supporting. It has been a meaningful experience to visit with her in Haiti and for our teams to participate in the work of the mission there from time to time.
We have seen the conditions and challenges firsthand.
Sister Phyllis has been a missionary in Haiti since her graduation from Anderson University in 1972.
She lives at the Mission Center, where she operates an orphanage, located in Saint Ard a town north of Port-Au-Prince. Her ministry there has overseen the impact on the lives of thousands of Haitians and the changing of the spiritual landscape by the constant intercession, material provision for churches schools and medical clinics,
With the support of missions groups and churches from outside of Haiti and others, she has been able to complete, an orphanage, a conference center, and a hospital which was completed after the 2010 Earthquake. Haitians from all over the country have been able to access this facility, which also offers prostheses for limbs which were lost in the earthquake, though not exclusively so.
Nicaragua
Our commitment to the work of the Lord in Nicaragua began in April 1998 when a small team from
Church of God Chapels in George Town Bodden Town and Cayman Brac, visited Bluefields Nicaragua. Pastor Ed Jaentschke and his wife Pastora Ligia, their family and the Congregation warmly welcomed us.
Church of God Chapel Bodden Town continues to support the work and ministry of Pastor Ed Jaentschke and
the Verbo Church. We have not been able to visit Nicaragua because of different issues including COVID. We
have recently helped with the financial support for students of the Verbo School and are so thankful that we were able to see some more students graduate. The school will have to be closed under pressure from the Government.
Ukraine
The Strombecks had a wide ministry in South and Central America well as in Europe (mainly Russia) and also in China. Their work was mainly to train pastors and prepare others whom God called to minister in various ways. For many years we have supported Rick and Bette Strombeck and family in their mission work through Koinonia Ministries to Ukraine, Ecuador, Peru, Columbia, Bolivia and in Israel. This family has been an example and model of serving the Lord in a multigenerational effort. In later years their ministry concentrated more around Ukraine where they continued to train pastors and leaders. We continue to support this ministry, especially in these troubled times of war and destruction.
